DESCRIPTION
This piece was inspired by Cleveland's proud aviation history as host to the National Air Races from 1929-1949. The wall relief sculptures represent 16 of the more significant planes that participated in these races. I handbuilt these airplanes to scale using accurate model airplane plans from the Cleveland Model & Supply Co. They all have 3 foot wing spans and range in length from 30 to 50 inches. To represent Cleveland's still vital role as an International airport hub, the floor mosaic panels are designed from modern jet airliners. There are 32 - 1'x1' panels in the entryway, aiming up (or in) on the entry side of the ramp and aiming down (or out) on the exit side of the ramp. In the waiting area 4 - 2'x3' panels and 2 - 3'x4' panels, circle round in a holding pattern. On the platform the 24 - 4'x4' panels lead you out towards the trains.
